Are you wondering what I’m bantering about – totally unrelated to food blogging?? Well, that is just how I’ve been feeling lately. Cooking, blogging, cleaning, working… :-) I’m just not up to it. Maybe it’s the weather. I just make something simple and totally non-inspiring to put on the table so my family can eat and not be hungry anymore. Besides, they don’t complain. They’re happy with pastas, stir fries, salads, frozen stuff, leftovers … anything works for my family. And not to mention, after my India trip, my weighing scale tipped 2 lbs over, thanks to all the mindless gorging I did at the sight of food. So, I’ve started to carefully watch what I eat, cut down on fat and carbs a little bit and get back into the exercise routine. You must be thinking I’m a fitness freak! Unfortunately far from that! I just know that once the weight creeps in, it’s very very hard to get it off! So nowadays it’s been simple, healthy meals at home. Before I go ahead to share with you guys one of our favorite Sunday morning breakfasts, I wanted to share some more India pictures (you must be thinking “Gosh this lady has been back almost a month, and now she decided to share them?) … Well, Better late than never right!

Ras Bale - A special variety of Banana
Nanjangud - A small town in Karnataka, close to Mysore, the hometown of the famous Nanjangud Shiva temple is popular for Ras Bale - a special variety of banana that has a sweet taste that lingers long after you've eaten the banana. The picture above shows stems of bananas hanging in a store that sells only bananas.

Onions and Potatoes Galore
Onions and Potatoes anyone? I've never seen so many Onions and Potatoes in a long time! I was fascinated by the abundance of these roots in this stall! In return, the store keeper was fascinated that someone was taking his picture! If only he knew that it was the onions that attracted me :-)

A fresh fruit juice stall in Bangalore
A fresh fruit juice stall in Bangalore. It was refreshing to see the lineup of fresh fruits. And the juices themselves were amazing! So delicious, that you can keep drinking one cup after another!

A variety of Fruit juices you can choose from
And here's the menu! Check out the spelling on some of these. It made me smile! And Saffron I thought of you and you're post on India :-)
One morning, I stepped out and I saw this huge basket of fresh flowers outside my house in Bangalore. The flowers were so fresh and beautiful. I ran in to get my camera. It was an early morning shot and the weather was perfect!. The whilte flowers are jasmine flowers - aromatic and beuatiful. The orange ones are called 'Kanakambra' in Kannada and Telugu - not sure what they're called in English. And the yellow ones are marigolds. All the flowers are weaved into garlands before being sold. This is the typical way that a vendor sells his flowers early morning in the neighbourhoods in Bangalore yelling 'Huvvu bekamma huvvu' which translates to "Flowers, Flowers for sale"...
And now here's a simple breakfast:
I usually make these with leftover Dosa batter. Chop red onions fine and set aside. Chop cilantro (coriander leaves) fine and set aside. You can even use grated carrots. Pour a ladle full of batter on a hot tava or pan and spread into a thick circular dosa. Sprinkle some chopped onions, grated carrots and cilantro. Drizzle some oil. Cook until the side being cooked is golden brown. Flip over and cook for a few minutes. Serve hot. Before sreving, sprinkle some red hot chutney powder and spoon some Potato Curry onto the Dosa. You can serve the oothapam with some coconut chutney as well.
